Devils Postpile National Monument hides deep in the Inyo National Forest near Mammoth Lakes. This 800-acre monument is located at 7,600 feet elevation in the eastern Sierra Nevada. The eruption of a basalt lava joined actions with subseqently glacial movement to form these long and symetrical basaltic columns.
