Hoover Dam
Hoover Dam is an arch-gravity dam that spans the Black Canyon at the Arizona and Nevada border. This concrete dam over Colorado River was built in 1931-1935, the largest of its kind at the time. Two-lane traffic of Highway 93 crossing the dam is usually busy. It was quite congested due to security checks when we visited, several months after 911. Our drive from Vegas took much longer, we got there just in time to see the sunset over the dam.
